Privacy Policy

Last updated on: 26 May 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Makeatask Technologies (“Makeatask,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile app, our website, and the related services (collectively, the “Service”). Makeatask is operated in Nigeria and the Service is intended for users located in Nigeria. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

We only collect what we need to run a safe, two-sided marketplace for tasks. The categories below reflect what the app actually asks for today.

  • Account details: full name, email address, phone number, date of birth, state of residence, and residential address.
  • Profile information: profile photo, short bio, your role (Task Poster or Service Provider), the service categories you select, and — for providers — service listings, pricing tiers, photos, and delivery mode (remote, in-person, or hybrid).
  • Identity verification (KYC): we use a licensed third-party identity provider (Dojah) to verify your government-issued identity number (NIN or BVN) and a liveness photo. KYC is mandatory before you can post a task, send an offer, chat, or move money.
  • Wallet and payout data: bank account number, bank name, account name, and the dedicated virtual account (DVA) that we provision for you so you can fund your in-app wallet by bank transfer. We do not store full card numbers — those are handled by our regulated payment partners.
  • Task and transaction data: tasks you post or accept, offers, messages exchanged in chat, on-time delivery, completion status, ratings and reviews, cancellations, dispute outcomes, and the events that feed your provider visibility score.
  • Location data: with your permission, we collect approximate or precise location to match you with nearby tasks or providers and to attach a location to in-person tasks. You can switch this off in your device settings, though some features (such as in-person task matching) will not work without it.
  • Device and usage data: device identifier, operating system, app version, IP address, log events, and how you interact with screens. This helps us debug, prevent fraud, and improve the product.
  • Support content: any messages, screenshots, or attachments you send when you submit a support ticket or open a dispute.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Operate the Service: create your account, verify your identity, set up your wallet and DVA, and personalise your home, search, and notification feeds.
  • Match the marketplace: connect Task Posters with Service Providers based on category, location, availability, and provider visibility signals.
  • Process payments: hold funds in escrow while a task is in progress, release them on completion, process withdrawals to your bank account, and keep a clear transaction history.
  • Maintain trust and safety: enforce KYC, detect and prevent fraud, review reports, resolve disputes, and decide when to suspend or terminate accounts that break the rules.
  • Improve the product: analyse usage trends, fix bugs, and develop new features.
  • Communicate with you: send transactional notifications (offers, messages, payment events, dispute updates) and — only with your permission — marketing or product updates. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
  • Comply with the law: meet our obligations under Nigerian regulations including the Nigeria Data Protection Act, anti-money-laundering rules, and lawful requests from regulators or courts.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the parties that need it to make the Service work:

  • Other users: your public profile (name, photo, role, ratings, reviews, listed services) is visible to people you transact with so they can decide whether to hire or work with you.
  • Identity verification partners: we share the data needed to run KYC checks with Dojah and similar regulated providers.
  • Payment and banking partners: we share what is necessary with our licensed payment processors and the banks that issue your dedicated virtual account, so transfers, holds, releases, and withdrawals can be settled.
  • Cloud and infrastructure providers: hosting, storage, analytics, error monitoring, and customer-support tooling that operate on our behalf under written contracts.
  • Legal and safety: regulators, law enforcement, or other authorised parties when we are legally required to disclose, or to protect users, the public, or our rights.
  • Business transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the successor entity, subject to this Policy.

5. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards. Some records (KYC files, wallet ledgers, transaction history, dispute outcomes) are kept for longer where Nigerian financial and tax laws require it. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

6. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access and update the information on your profile and in your wallet from inside the app.
  • Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Request deletion of your account. Some data may be retained where we are legally required to keep it or to resolve open disputes.
  • Withdraw consent for marketing communications or location tracking at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your rights have been infringed.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@makeatask.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by law.

7. Data Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for sensitive fields, role-based access controls, audit logging, automated abuse detection, and regular security reviews. Passwords are stored as salted hashes and never in plain text. No system can be guaranteed perfectly secure, so we strongly recommend using a strong password, enabling biometric login on your device, and never sharing your verification codes with anyone — we will never ask you for them.

8. Children

The Service is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have, we delete it.

9. International Transfers

Your data is primarily processed in Nigeria. Some of our cloud and analytics partners are based outside Nigeria; where we transfer data internationally, we use approved safeguards so your information remains protected.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy as the Service evolves. When we make material changes we will notify you in the app, by email, or both, and update the “Last updated” date above. Continuing to use the Service after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.

11. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Policy or how we handle your data, contact our Data Protection Officer at privacy@makeatask.com.
